Ace Hardware Partners with DoorDash to Expand Same-Day Delivery Nationwide

Ace Hardware has announced an exclusive nationwide partnership with DoorDash to provide on-demand delivery of hardware, paint, garden supplies, and other home improvement essentials from more than 4,000 locally owned Ace locations.

The agreement marks the first time a major hardware co-op has fully integrated with a national third-party delivery platform, signaling the growing importance of same-day fulfillment across the home improvement industry. Consumers can now place orders through the DoorDash app or website and receive products in as little as an hour.

Meeting Customer Expectations for Speed

For hardware retailers, the move reflects shifting customer expectations in a market increasingly driven by convenience. Whether homeowners need last-minute supplies for a weekend project or contractors run short of fasteners mid-job, on-demand delivery is becoming an essential part of the shopping experience.

“Ace is always looking for new ways to serve our customers better and faster,” said Bill Kiss, head of digital at Ace Hardware. “With DoorDash, we’re creating opportunities to bring our local expertise directly to our customers’ doors.”

DoorDash will leverage its existing logistics network to fulfill orders through independent Ace dealers, offering same-day service without requiring retailers to build their own delivery infrastructure.

Competitive Pressure Builds

Ace’s partnership comes as other large players test similar models. Lowe’s has been piloting same-day delivery programs through third-party partners since 2024, and Home Depot has experimented with regional courier integrations in select markets. By securing an exclusive agreement with DoorDash, Ace positions its independent stores to compete more directly with both big-box retailers and e-commerce platforms that emphasize fast fulfillment.

“Consumers today expect the products they need to come to them,” said Mike Goldblatt, vice president of grocery and retail partnerships at DoorDash. “This partnership ensures Ace customers can get the right products, right when they need them.”

Implications for Independent Retailers

For Ace’s member dealers, the DoorDash partnership offers a potential competitive edge, expanding their reach without requiring additional staffing or investment in delivery vehicles. At the same time, it introduces new operational considerations around inventory management, pricing strategies, and balancing in-store and online customer experiences.

The rollout also highlights broader industry trends: as customer expectations evolve, independent retailers across all co-ops may face increasing pressure to integrate on-demand options to remain competitive.

Incentives to Drive Adoption

To encourage early adoption, DoorDash is promoting launch discounts through September 30. While these incentives target consumers, the move underscores the platform’s effort to quickly establish customer habits around ordering home improvement products online. Ace’s partnership with DoorDash represents a significant shift for independent hardware retail, expanding access to on-demand fulfillment at a national scale and raising the stakes for how quickly local stores can meet customer needs.
