Aubuchon Company to Acquire Spangler’s Ace Hardware in Pennsylvania
The Aubuchon Company has announced an agreement to acquire Spangler’s Ace Hardware in Dover, Pennsylvania, from the Spangler family. The store will continue operating under the Spangler’s Ace Hardware name following a January 6 settlement date, and Ashley Spangler III will remain as store leader.
With the addition, Aubuchon will operate 134 stores across 11 states, continuing its growth as the oldest and largest family-owned hardware retailer group in the United States.
Aubuchon president and CEO William E. Aubuchon IV emphasized the family legacy behind the Dover location. He said the Spangler family built a business defined by care for customers, employees, and the broader community, noting the leadership of Ashley Spangler Jr. and his hands-on approach.
Ashley Spangler Jr. thanked employees and customers for supporting the store for more than three decades, stating that the business has been grounded in service to the Dover community. He added that the family sought a partner who would respect the existing culture and support the team, saying Aubuchon’s community-focused values made the partnership a fit.
Founded in 1993 and relocated in 2000, Spangler’s Ace Hardware has expanded to more than 20,000 square feet, including outdoor bulk materials, stone and pavers, seasonal greenhouse space, and a yard area. The business has added services such as equipment rental and small engine repair while maintaining a strong emphasis on hardware, paint, lawn and garden, and outdoor power equipment. The store is also widely recognized for community involvement, including local fire departments, schools, Lions Club and Boy Scouts support.
For Aubuchon, the transaction extends its presence in the Mid-Atlantic region while retaining the Spangler name and leadership structure familiar to customers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
