Costello’s Ace Hardware Expands with New Stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania

Costello’s Ace Hardware is expanding its multi-state footprint with a renewed emphasis on new store development, highlighted by a flagship location in Cedar Knolls, N.J., and a new store under construction in Abington, Pa.
The Deer Park, New York–based retailer is working toward a goal of 100 locations by 2030. While recent growth has included acquisitions—such as the addition of the 11-store Rommell’s Ace Home Center group in 2025—the company says current market conditions are creating more opportunities for ground-up development and redevelopment projects.
“We’ve always grown through a mix of acquisitions and new stores,” says Mike Costello, CEO of Costello’s Ace Hardware. “We are seeing strong opportunities to open new locations from the ground up due to market growth and the increasing availability of suitable retail sites. Our vision remains steady, to be the acquisition partner of choice for great businesses looking for a succession plan and to expand into new communities that really need a local hardware store.”
The Cedar Knolls store, at 235 Ridgedale Ave., will span more than 23,000 square feet and is expected to open in mid-May. The location is designed around Ace Hardware’s ELEVATE3 format and will feature expanded assortments across categories such as outdoor power equipment, backyard and barbecue, paint and hardware.
The store will include dedicated areas for outdoor power equipment brands such as EGO, STIHL, Milwaukee, DeWalt and Craftsman, along with a backyard and barbecue section featuring Weber, Traeger, Big Green Egg, Blackstone, Ooni, Recteq and Gozney. Additional assortments will include brands such as Benjamin Moore, Jonathan Green, Scotts, YETI, Stanley, Owala and Solo Stove.
Costello’s is also developing a store in Abington, Pa., located at 1333 Easton Road in the Roslyn Village Commons shopping center. The about 12,000-square-foot location is under construction and is expected to open in late May. Like Cedar Knolls, the store will also follow the ELEVATE3 format.
Both locations are designed to serve do-it-yourself customers and professional tradespeople, with services including key cutting and programming, knife sharpening, paint color matching, window screen repair and assembly and delivery. The company says the stores will also support commercial customers through account management, purchasing programs, product sourcing and jobsite delivery.
Additional locations are planned in East Goshen, Pa., and Henrico, Va., as part of the company’s ongoing expansion. Costello’s currently operates 63 stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
