Aubuchon Company Acquiring Zimmerman’s Hardware

The Aubuchon Company is acquiring Maryland-based Zimmerman’s Hardware.

Craig Zimmerman, James Dillon, Ron Zimmerman and Gary Zimmerman have agreed to sell Zimmerman’s Hardware in Burtonsville, Md., to the Aubuchon Company, the oldest and largest family-owned hardware store chain in America. Following the closing early this year, the Aubuchon Company will operate 111 stores in nine states.

“Since 1985, Zimmerman’s in Burtonsville has been a destination for customers in Montgomery, Howard and Prince George counties,” said William E. Aubuchon, IV, president and CEO. “I admire their strong offering of hardware, decking and power equipment, but what really stands out is their long-standing commitment to the absolute best customer service.”

“Having a wonderful team to help us grow the business has meant the world to us. Over the years, many of those team members have grown to feel like family and are still with us today,” said Ron Zimmerman.

“Our father, Roy Zimmerman, started it all in 1978 when he opened his first hardware store in Silver Spring, Md. His mission was to build a strong and friendly relationship with our customers and staff. We have followed that mission to this day,” added Gary Zimmerman.

“As we venture into the next stages in our lives, we’ve decided to sell the business. We didn’t want to just sell it to anyone. We wanted to find the best fit for what our customers and staff have grown to expect and a business that really cares. We are very excited to announce that we have found another family business that cares about our mission. Aubuchon Hardware has been operating since 1908 in the New England area, and they own over 100 stores from Maine to Virginia. They will be a wonderful fit to take over the business, and we are so excited to see how it grows and evolves,” added Craig Zimmerman.

The store will continue to operate as Zimmerman’s Hardware, and Ron will continue to be involved as a member of the Aubuchon Company team.

“We’ll soon be officially welcoming the Zimmerman’s team to the Aubuchon family. We work hard, care for each other and have fun,” said Aubuchon. “We couldn’t be more excited to carry on the Zimmerman’s legacy.”

In 1978, Roy Zimmerman opened his first hardware store in Silver Spring, Md., under the name of Zimmerman Supply. When he noticed the success of the hardware industry, he decided to open another store in Burtonsville. With the help of the other owners, Craig Zimmerman, James Dillon, Ronald Zimmerman and Gary Zimmerman, the store opened in 1985. The store has grown to serve loyal customers, neighbors and friends throughout Montgomery, Howard and Prince George counties with superior products and outstanding service.

Founded by William E. Aubuchon, Sr in 1908, the Aubuchon Company is the oldest and largest family-owned hardware store chain in America. Now in its fourth generation, the purpose of the Aubuchon Company is “to serve those who depend on us and build on our heritage with passion and humility.”

Following the purchase of Zimmerman’s Hardware, the Aubuchon Company will operate 111 stores in nine states, predominantly under the “Aubuchon Hardware” brand, but also including “Lyndonville Hardware & Lumber” in Lyndonville, Vt.; “Village Hardware” in Alexandria, Va.; “True Value” in Bucks & Montgomery Counties, Pa.; “Cornell’s Hardware” in Eastchester, N.Y.; “Martin’s Hardware & Building Supply” in Bristol, Vt.; “Campbell’s True Value” in Maine, and now “Zimmerman’s Hardware” in Burtonsville, Md. The company’s mission is to build up the strongest group of local hardware stores and brands across the country. For more information about the Aubuchon Company, visit aubuchon.company.
