Spahn & Rose Acquires Century Club Retailer
The dedicated staff at Moeller & Walter will continue to serve the Reinbeck area as part of the new Spahn & Rose Lumber facility.»
Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. continues to grow, as one Century Club retailer acquires another. To boost its commitment to builders and contractors, the Dubuque, Iowa–based lumber retailer has reached an agreement to purchase Moeller & Walter, a full-service building design and materials store in Reinbeck, Iowa.
Spahn & Rose was founded in 1904, while Moeller & Walter dates back to 1876 and is the oldest, privately owned company in Grundy County, Iowa.
As part of the deal, Spahn & Rose will acquire Moeller & Walter’s real estate and business assets. To streamline operations and maximize efficiency, Spahn & Rose will combine its nearby Grundy Center location into the Moeller & Walter facility.
“This is a great acquisition that increases our presence in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls market,” says Spahn & Rose CEO Dave Davis. “By combining the Grundy Center Spahn & Rose location with Moeller & Walter, we’ll be able to serve our customers better than either location could before.”
The new business will be known as Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. Employees from both locations will be part of the new operation; Lynn Trask, former majority owner of Moeller & Walter, will become general manager. Ron Petersen, Trask’s partner at Moeller & Walter, will also have a key role in the new business. Matt Wilson, general manager of Spahn & Rose in Grundy Center, will serve as assistant general manager-operations and Dan Mohlis of Moeller & Walter will serve as assistant general manager-sales.
Spahn & Rose is a leading lumber and building materials distributor with 24 locations in the Midwest and has been named one of the top 100 lumber and building materials distributors in the country. Moeller & Walter provides a full line of building materials for residential, commercial and farm projects throughout a 60-mile radius around Reinbeck. Lynn Trask purchased the business in 1984, while Ron Petersen became a partner in 2001.
The agreement continues Spahn & Rose’s recent growth. In February 2019, Spahn & Rose acquired Dunn Lumber Co., based in Lake Geneva, Wisc.
